The "Atlas Lion" Ignites the Race for Top Scorer at the Andalusian Club
After the specter of injury sidelined him just before the World Cup, Abde Ezzalzouli has returned to prove he is a cornerstone of Real Betis’s attack.
The Moroccan winger did more than just score his fourth goal of the season in a contentious clash against Barcelona; he shattered any lingering doubts, moving to the top of the team’s scoring charts outright. His performance confirms a full recovery, signaling the return of the exceptional form that captivated Europe last season.
A Striking Return: Ezzalzouli Reclaims His Exceptional Form
Spanish media reported that, in front of a crowd exceeding 66,924 spectators at the La Cartuja stadium, the Moroccan winger rediscovered the exceptional form he displayed at the end of last season.
Had it not been for a knee sprain, the Moroccan star would have participated in the World Cup; however, missing out on that experience meant he had to begin the 2026–2027 season gradually.
With this goal against Barcelona, the player—who wears the number 10 jersey—has re-established himself as a decisive, difference-making presence for the team.
The press noted, "With this achievement, Ezzalzouli now stands alone as Real Betis’ top scorer this season, moving ahead of Marc Bartra, Isco Alarcón, and Cucho Hernández—each of whom has scored 3 goals across all competitions."
